What's the difference of IPS, OLED & LTPS?
Now so many mobile phone screen technology, I'd like to introduce various display panel and screen technology, to make everybody can distinguish them easily.
At present there are only two mobile phone screen classification, TFT - LCD and OLED, They respectively represent the passive and active display screen.Passive panel need the support of the back light, Active panel can self-illuminate and need no back light.
OLED mainly represented by Samsung Super AMOLED(Super Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode.
TFT-LCD include: TN、VA、IPS、CPA(AVS)
TN(Twisted Nematic)-- Low-cost make it is one of the most widely used screen. but the disadvantage is that small visual Angle, color reduction ability is limited
VA(Vertical Alignment)-- It doesn't suitable for touch panel of mobile phone because it will have ripple of pressing.
IPS(In-Plane Switching)-- With advantages of wide visual angle and good performance of color reduction.
CPA(Continuous Pinwheel Alignment)--Technology of Sharp, with good visual angle and color reduction ability, but too much costly.
Introduction of Several kinds of display materials & technology:
a-Si-- technology of amorphous silicon,It's one of the most widely used, simple technology and low cost. It's PPI about 200
IGZO(Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide)-- Its Advantages are high precision, low power consumption and high touch performance.Apple IPAD use this. The PPI under 300
LTPS(Low Temperature Poly-silicon)-- Its PPI could be over 500,representative products are HTC One X、iPhone 4/4S/5
CGS(CG-silicon)--It's a variant of the LTPS process using laser annealing to get larger domains,Under the condition of same backlight brightness, the screen brightness is higher, and in same screen brightness, can use lower brightness of the backlight to save electricity. In addition it's more thinner, with better resistance pf crash and distortion.
